Summer Vacation???

Rick and I started planning our summer vacation and we are down to three choices. Over the past two years our summer vacations have been to Chicago to visit family and friends, but this year we wanted to plan a romantic get-away for just the two of us. So here are the three places we have narrowed it down to:

1. Cancun, Mexico (Riviera Maya) - this is where we went on our honeymoon!

2. Jamaica

3. Caribbean Carnival Cruise

So now it's time for your votes...which place would you rather go on vacation? Maybe you have been to one of these places and recommend one over the other. I know they are all wonderful places, but I'm curious where my friends and family would choose.

They all look great! A vacation for me, is walking to the mailbox across the street, so I'd be happy with any. It may be romantic to go back to the place where you honeymooned.

Hey Kelly, Hope all went well with your move!

Well, you know how much we love to travel. We've never done the Carnival Cruise thing, but we have been to the Carribean--USVI, Bahamas, Jamaica. On occassion we like to return to places we've already been, BUT for the most part we like new adventures! There are so many places we still need to see and experience. Sunshine, ocean breezes, palm trees, yummy seafood, walking on the beach--hey--it all sounds good to us!

I guess the Allen's vote for Jamaica. By the way, (just to throw another option out for you)Key West, Florida is fantastic too!

Does Chicago sound good to you for a vacation? Hmmmm maybe you will live here by the summer time and you will go on vacation to Cancun...then we can pick you up from the airport like we did from your honeymoon!!!

I reccomend where we stayed laswt year in Cancun...it was wonderful!!!

We've been to all of these places and I would say NO to Cancun! We stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna, which was nice enough... but the whole experience was very disappointing.
Here's why:
#1 Cancun has become much more expensive over the years (a can of beer costs $5-$6 USD for Mexican domestics).
#2 Cancun is really geared toward Spring breakers... but with all the hurricanes they've experienced of late, even that scene is weak.
#3 They have flying, biting cockroaches. Seriously. It's disgusting.

I highly recommend doing a Carnival cruise to the Caribbean if you have never done one. It is a good way to see a lot of different ports, make a pretty good budget well in advance (since it is mostly all inclusive) and have a lot of fun. Plus, if you go later in the Summer versus the Spring there are not a ton of teenagers, which really does make a difference on a cruise.

Jamaica is one of my favorite places we have visited in recent years. We went last year to Ocho Rios and had a fabulous time. We will definitely go back. One tip... if you go to Dunn's River Falls, exit through the ENTRANCE. If you exit through the EXIT, there is a "market" where locals put high pressure on you (I MEAN... IF YOU TELL THEM YOUR NAME THEY WILL CARVE SOMETHING WITH YOUR NAME ON IT THAT THEY PRESSURE YOU TO BUY). They will also chase you down.

Anyway, if you have any questions about any of the places, let us know. We love warm weather destinations. Of course, Hawaii is our favorite... but... you didn't have that as a choice. :)

Good luck with your planning!
Laura

P.S. See travel site cruisecritic.com for really good member reviews on cruises you may be considering. We're going on a Caribbean cruise on Norwegian next March and the site was very helpful. I also used it for our last Caribbean cruise and not only did it help with planning shore excursions, but we met some cool people.
